A stream of thoughts

As you all know Does released his second book 'First 20 Years' and, to celebrate this great moment, the launch of the book was accompanied by a short docu about the rhythm of sketching. For the making of this docu we collaborated with Strictua and a copyrighter. We'd love to share the story with you here. Upon many requests we're also sharing this story in Spanish!

Does about the rhythm of sketching: a stream of thoughts

The start is always scary. Frustrating.

At this point only one thing is clear, the amount of work that lies ahead. There is no roadmap.

So many possibilities.

The quest for colors, shapes and materials keeps intriguing me.

When in a creative bubble, I can completely lose myself in it.

Chaos and mess can exist in my studio. I know exactly where to find things.

As the clock ticks, time stands still.

If a project doesn't run smoothly, the focus becomes fragile.

Should I blame myself or ...?

No, I can't blame my surroundings.

It’s in my head and that’s okay.

The trick is to not remain stuck in it.

I pick an easy part and get back into a positive flow.

I used to completely finish my sketches.

Nowadays, a sketch is the foundation, not a finished product.

Experience in visualisation enables me to work on further details in my head.

And when something hasn't been defined on paper, it can still go everywhere.

At the moment I tear up my sketches.

New things emerge from these shapes.

I feel that so much more is possible in terms of shapes and making things abstract.

It’s more about the overall composition now.

Reflecting on 20 years of sketching I see the extent of the development.

Some sketches are very much alike. They display my training in the understanding of lines and compositions.

It’s a matter of doing and often failing.

To make mistakes and push on, a continuous search for what drives me.

A development without an end.

Debería de culparme a mi mismo o...?

No, no puedo culpar a mis alrededores.
